Tribal Art - Textiles

The history of African textile patterns dates back to the fifteenth century. Valued for conveying cultural information in festivities and ceremonies, textiles in Africa can be used as a form of currency, or in social occasions, such as a dowry. African textiles often convey a high achievement in personal life, and may symbolize wealth or social status.  In certain tribes and countries, African textiles represent longevity, protection and fertility.
