Headdresses such as this, with a conical base supporting a round human head belonged to the Oglinye society, which was originlly a warrior society. Nowadays, however, it retains only the idea that its members are strong and courageous. This piece displays the classic Idoma style, depicting the open mouth showing teeth and vertical keloids on the temples.
