Djimini / Ligbi Mask
Do Society, Ivory Coast
Wood, natural pigment

Inventory # 10332

This classical Do mask recalls the style of the Senufo’s kpeliyee masks, and represent the Ligbi’s ideal of feminine beauty. The Do (also known as Lo) put on striking, colorful masquerade featuring the dances of this type of mask. Interestingly, the Ligbi don’t carve their masks – they acquire them from Senufo sculptors hundreds of miles from their territory.
