This spectacular type of stripwoven cloth was originally created in the early 19th century from imported silk. Famously known as Kente cloth, the Ashanti actually call these textiles adwinasa, meaning ‘fullness of ornament.’ Adwinasa textiles represent the high point of achievement among Ashanti weavers.
