Inventory # 10599

Like their neighbors the Dogon, who are renowned for their equestrian figures, the Bamana consider the horse and rider an important symbol in their art. The image of the equestrian pervades many levels of Bamana art—crafted of either iron or wood—from the casual and whimsical marionette theater to the highest levels of the Dyow secret societies.
